OUR STORY

Every journey has its story, and here unfolds our narrative—a tale of rediscovering a forgotten legacy. In a world captivated by man-made wonders, the intrinsic worth of time-honored resources had begun to fade beneath the weight of contemporary materials.

I’m originally from Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. After I moved to Bangalore, my spouse and I journeyed through India, collecting tokens of remembrance. Our hearts gravitated towards towns known for handcrafted collectibles.

During a visit to Delhi, our path led us to Moradabad, a village steeped in metalwork, with brass as its medium. Here, we encountered gifted artisans, overshadowed by the decline in demand for their creations. When we talked to them, we learned that their lives weren't easy. Skilled artisans like them didn't get much support or attention.

We returned with some brass kitchenware and accessories for our home. Seeing those, everybody in our family started to tell us stories. That is not just a story; they began recalling all of their childhood memories with their grandparents, their mother's kitchen, and their own experiences with those products. A few of them even meticulously kept their old kitchenware and home decor, as they are very sentimental to them.

There comes my big bang moment—a vision to resurrect these designs for future generations which could also help such skillful local artisans. Thus, Taamirah was born, offering aesthetically pleasing kitchenware and heartfelt souvenirs, breathing new life into the treasures of our past.

WHY NAMED TAAMIRAH?

Tuticorin, a coastal region in Tamil Nadu, has grown from a small town into a thriving city while preserving its deep connection to copper. "Taamirah," its name derived from Tamil for copper, reflects this heritage. Copper represents strength and resilience in our culture. The Thamirabharani River, meaning "land of copper," flows through Tuticorin, sustaining generations. "Taamirah" encapsulates our history, culture, and enduring link to copper as I embark on my entrepreneurial journey.
